There are two major schools of thought regarding the composition of magical formulas. This division is not absolute: most mages have a preferred style but can employ the alternative if it better suits their purpose.

Elemental School:

The ancient school, originated by the Elves shortly after the invention of glyphs. The structure of these spells is entirely built around the five Elemental Glyphs.

Causal School:

The modern school, recently developed by Humans. It is based on the four Power Glyphs; mages who utilize this style believe that every occurrence in the universe is tied to one or more of these “fundamental interactions”, and therefore, spells must operate under the same principle.
